Health Screening

Screenings are also a routine part of the School Health Program. Hearing and vision screening statutes legislatively mandate the administration of screenings and referrals to children enrolled in educational programs. The mandates require that a systematic program for hearing and vision screenings be made available to children in order to allow early identification and appropriate intervention. 

HUSD participates in the Arizona state Sensory Screening program where the the following are completed:

• Vision: Distance and Near acuity, Stereoacuity, and color deficiency
• Hearing

If you do not want your student included in the sensory screening program, the parent/guardian must notify the nurse in writing each year declining the screenings.

If any abnormalities are discovered as a result of the screening, parents/guardians will be notified and recommendations made for further evaluation.
