Family Resource Center McKinney Vento and Foster Student Information

Items on hand vary but usually include:

• Clothing for all seasons in sizes from baby to adult
• Limited shoes in various sizes
• Undergarments (Socks and Underwear)
• Winter Items (Hoodies, Coats, Gloves, Beanies & Scarves)
• Backpacks and School Supplies
• Lap blankets (made by Project Linus)
• Hygiene products (Soap, Shampoo, Lotion, Toothbrushes, Toothpaste, and Hand Sanitizer)
• Feminine Hygiene pouches
• Flyers, pamphlets, and compiled Resource Lists for Housing, Shelters, Healthcare, and Food Boxes
• Children's books and toys

All items are donated by community members, parents from HUSD schools, and our great church and business partners. The FRC is always accepting donations of new or gently used clothing in all sizes, new undergarments, new hygiene supplies, new school supplies, and gift cards to local stores (Walmart, Frys, Great Clips, Maverik, Kohls, etc). Tax donation receipts are available upon request.

The Family Resource Center is located at the District Office, 6901 Panther Path, Prescott Valley, AZ.

Lisa Krietenstein is also the HUSD  Point of Contact for students and families experiencing temporary housing situations (McKinney-Vento Homeless) and for the students that are in foster care.

If you are experiencing a temporary housing situation or homelessness, please complete the Student Eligibility Form and return it to your student's school office staff.

Each situation is unique and will be looked at fully.

McKinney-Vento defines homelessness as "individuals who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence".

 

This may include (but is not limited to):

• sharing housing due to economic hardship or loss of housing (e.g. doubled-up)
• living in motels, hotels, trailer parks, or campgrounds
• living in emergency or transitional shelters
• sleeping in places unfit for human habitation (e.g. park benches)
• living in cars, parks, public spaces, abandoned buildings, substandard housing, bus or train stations, etc.

The McKinney-Vento program can assist students in school stability by keeping students in their school of origin and helping with fees, clothing, supplies, meals, and transportation.

The Foster Care student program is similar to the McKinney-Vento Homeless Program and can assist students with school of origin, meals, supplies, and transportation.

Lastly, the FRC hosts Parenting Workshops, FREE for all parents. Workshops are listed on the "Parenting Education Workshops" tab under the Family Resources tab on the website and also posted on the HUSD Social Media accounts.

 

McKinney-Vento Homeless DISPUTES:

The dispute resolution's purpose is to provide the parent/guardian an opportunity to dispute a Local Educational Agency (LES) decision on eligibility, school selection, enrollment, or transportation feasibility.

The McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Improvements Act of 2001 requires the State Educational Agencies (SEAs) to have a procedure for the prompt resolution of disputes regarding the educational placement of homeless children and youth.
