Title III
Title III Program Overview
The Title III Program, a component of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), supports Local Education Agencies (LEAs) in ensuring that English Learners (ELLs) and immigrant students achieve English proficiency while meeting the same rigorous state standards required of all students.
Purpose of Title III Funds
Title III funds are designed to:
- Help ELLs attain English language proficiency in a timely manner.
- Ensure that ELLs meet challenging academic content standards.
- Provide meaningful opportunities for immigrant students to succeed academically.
Professional Development for Educators
To achieve these goals, LEAs that receive Title III funding are required to offer high-quality professional development to educators who work with ELLs. This includes:
- Elementary Educators: Strengthening strategies to support language acquisition and content learning.
- Content Teachers: Integrating language development techniques into subject-area instruction.
- English as a Second Language (ESL) Specialists: Enhancing best practices for supporting English language learners.
