Employee Benefits

HUSD provides a robust benefits package for eligible employees, including:

 

  • Health Insurance: Choose from five health plans through Kairos Health. HUSD covers 100% of the premium for four of these plans for eligible employees without dependents.
  • Prescription Drug Coverage: Offered through MaxorPlus.
  • Telemedicine: Access Teladoc for virtual visits with board-certified medical professionals anytime, anywhere.
  • Dental Insurance: Options available through Delta Dental of Arizona.
  • Vision Insurance: Options available through VSP Vision Care.
  • Life Insurance: Basic coverage of $50,000 is provided at no cost to employees, with optional spouse coverage available.
  • Retirement: Participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS), guaranteeing lifetime monthly benefits upon retirement.
  • Counseling: ComPsych offers 24-hour access to confidential counseling services that can help with a variety of everyday issues and challenges.
  • Additional Benefits: Short-term disability, legal services, identity protection, pet insurance, and more through Kairos.

 

New employees are eligible for health benefits on the first day of the month following their official start date (with Board approval). Employees can also opt out of the district’s plan if they have adequate coverage elsewhere.

 

Time Off and Leave Accruals

The District offers leave accrual benefits to permanent employees hired under contract or work agreements who work 20 or more hours per week**. New employees working 20+ hours begin accruing leave starting from their hire date. Certified employees can use their accrued leave immediately as it is earned, while classified employees become eligible to use their leave on the first day after successfully completing a 60-day probationary period.

*This level of continuous employment is required for vacation accrual advancement for 12 month classified.

**Employment at this level requires enrollment in the Arizona State Retirement System and the deduction of ASRS contributions.

***Classified employees on probation are only paid for Federal Holidays. Certified non-administrative and Classified term contracts do not include holiday pay.

****For classified employees working more than school year +10 contracts, 3 personal days will be given.

*****For administrators working 10-11 month contracts, the annual number of vacation days will be 17 days.

******Health Coverage continues through June 30th for eligible certified/classified employees who resign/retire.
