Payroll

At Humboldt Unified School District, our Payroll Department is dedicated to providing exceptional service and support to our employees and administrative departments. Our team strives to ensure the accurate and timely processing of payroll, resolve inquiries, and address any challenges that may arise. Beyond issuing bi-weekly payroll checks, the Payroll Department plays a critical role in the following areas:

  • Compensation Management: We calculate monthly pay in strict accordance with Federal, State, and District regulations. With six distinct employee groups and additional hourly employees, including substitutes, we manage a diverse range of compensation structures.
  • Record Keeping: Our department maintains detailed records for all employee types. This includes managing multiple rates of pay and financial accounts for certain roles, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
  • Compliance Reporting: We report wages and hours worked to various state and federal agencies, including the Department of Labor, the Arizona State Retirement System, and the Social Security Administration.
  • Deductions Management: The Payroll Department manages and processes over 80 different types of deductions, both voluntary and mandatory, ensuring that employee paychecks reflect the appropriate withholdings.

At HUSD, we are proud to support our incredible team by providing accurate, transparent, and efficient payroll services to ensure that every employee receives the care and attention they deserve.

Important Reminder for HUSD Employees: Submit Your Time Slip on Time!

To comply with the Arizona Uniform System of Financial Records (USFR), the Business Office cannot issue a manual check to an employee who missed their payroll. This means that if you fail to submit your time slip, signed contract, or signed agreement by the due date, you will not be paid until the following pay period.

Supervisors, please ensure that all your employees are fully aware of this policy. If you anticipate being out of the office, make arrangements to ensure all required documents are submitted on time.

Your Pay Stub: A Critical Document

Are you reviewing your pay stub every payday? Your pay stub is full of important information about your benefits, leave balances, and tax deductions. Here are a few things you should check each payday:

  1. Address and Social Security Number: Confirm these are accurate to prevent issues with tax filings or benefit processing.
  2. Benefit Deductions: Ensure your payroll deductions match your current benefit elections. If you made changes during open enrollment or modified your coverage (e.g., added/deleted dependents or adjusted coverage levels), these changes should be reflected. If you canceled a benefit, the deduction should no longer appear.
  3. Leave Balances: Keep a copy of your leave slip and ensure it matches your leave bank. If you notice discrepancies, contact HR Specialist, Denise Stevens, at (928) 759-4000, ext. 70116.
  4. Tax Withholding: Review the federal and state tax amounts withheld from your paycheck. Are they aligned with your tax obligations? You can update your tax elections at any time throughout the year, as often as necessary.

If you have questions regarding benefits, contact Patricia Walker, Benefits Coordinator, at (928) 759-4019.

By staying proactive with your time slips and pay stubs, we can ensure a smooth payroll process for everyone at Humboldt Unified School District. Thank you for your attention to these important details!
