 Letter from the Principal

Welcome to Mountain View Elementary, a Highly Performing school.

Mountain View has earned a Highly Performing label for the second year! The Highly Performing label is awarded by the state of Arizona based on academic performance.  Student achievement is our top priority in addition to educating the whole child!
Students in grades second through fifth take part in the MAC-Ro math program. The Math Achievement Club by Rodel (MAC-Ro) is an initiative of the Rodel Charitable Foundation of Arizona with a proven track record of raising the math achievement of elementary school students. It is a supplemental program that is fun and motivating! Parents are encouraged to help students complete work at home.
Our Classical Enrichmentprogram is part of our extended curriculum at no cost to students.   Students in grades 1st through 6th have the opportunity to take additional classes to enrich their lives physically, mentally, and academically. Students attend three nine-week courses one day a week for one hour. We offer foreign languages, musical theater, technology, ping-pong, Zumba, art, walking for fitness, piano keyboarding, Yoga, and many others found in our school Classical Enrichment Brochure.
Mountain View has Specific Standardized Dress Apparel code to enhance our student achievement through our educational environment, promoting learning, fostering discipline, creating self-value, and ensuring a safe school atmosphere. Most importantly, to enhance our students’ identity from within opposed to their identity from what they look like on the outside. This form of student identification creates a better atmosphere where learning can take place without bullying behaviors and intimidation.  All children are considered equal!  Studies show that children who have a strong feeling of self-worth perform better academically and socially.   New students to the school will have 10 days to comply. A copy of our dress apparel guidelines can be found under “About Us” as well as other pertinent information.
Intramural sports include basketball, flag football, volleyball, and track. Students compete against other schools in the district, learning how to play the game while honing valuable social skills such as dealing with diversity and team building.
Principal’s Book Club meets regularly throughout the year. Children read highly challenging books and have meaningful dialogue that goes beyond expected academic standards.
Character Education is an ongoing program at Mountain View. There are six pillars of character education that are connected to the core ethical values being taught that form the foundation of Character Counts. They are Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship. Each pillar is modeled and reinforced through teacher activities and morning announcements. Students are rewarded with IC Excellence tickets for demonstrating one or more ethical values and have a chance each week to win a Character Count’s award.
Safety is our top priority in and out of the classroom, which is why we have the Peaceful Playground Program. This program introduces our students and school staff to the many choices of activities available on playgrounds and field areas to reduce school playground injuries and decrease discipline referrals.
We are located in the heart of Prescott Valley; Mountain View is home to the Academic Polar Bears and neighbor to the Boy's and Girl's club, Skate Park, Doggy Park, and the Splash Town pool in Mountain Valley Park.
If you have any questions please feel free to stop in or call. I am always willing to listen to concerns and to talk with you.
                                                                Sincerely,
                                                                JoAnne Bindell, Principal
