Elementary Schools
Kindergarten
The search for knowledge and learning begins in kindergarten at the elementary level. Our young students build basic skills through hands-on activities that plant the seeds of discovery. Phonogram recognition, number concepts, and fine motor development are all introduced in kindergarten.
Primary Students
Primary Students (grades 1-3) expand base skills and continue to explore the world in exciting ways. Learning to read, increasing vocabulary, and writing to express thoughts and ideas are all important primary skills. Number and object manipulation lead to understanding math as a tangible subject. Working in groups develops social skills.
Intermediate Learners
Intermediate Learners (grades 4-5) move from group to independent learning. Study skills, reading to understanding, and critical thinking skills are emphasized. Investigation and inquiry in subject areas such as science, health and social studies expand and focus the search for knowledge. A daily agenda is used for personal accountability. Social and leadership qualities continue to develop, preparing students for the discovery process that takes place in middle school.
Middle Schools
Students
Middle school students (grades 6-8) are recognized for their unique qualities. Too old for elementary school and too young for high school, these young adolescents come in all shapes and sizes.
Middle school focuses on learner-centered discovery through a variety of academic and exploratory experiences. Regular and advanced classes in math and English, and courses in fine and performing arts, technology, and physical education all expand the students' learning world. Special interest clubs and athletics support leadership development and community awareness.
Teachers
Middle school teachers work as a team to build small social and learning communities within the larger school. This eases the transition from a single-teacher elementary classroom and prepares students for high school. Teacher teams also work together to evaluate and monitor each student's growth and progress through this critical discovery time.
High Schools
Students
High School Students (grades 9-12) prepare to enter the world as productive members of society. As they leave the safety of the school environment and enter the workforce, the military or higher education, they must make effective choices in a diverse society. Therefore, high school students should develop skills in goal setting, critical thinking, and decision making.
Career Preparation
Our young adult students begin to focus on career preparation and work readiness through a variety of experiences. The core curriculum strengthens basic and advanced skills that students will use on a daily basis: reading, writing, math, social studies, and science. Elective classes provide physical and creative opportunities beyond the basics: physical education, the arts, and advanced classes in many subjects. Vocational classes explore career options and technical skills.
Throughout their high school experience, our students are encouraged to make their environment a better place by being self-directed learners, quality communicators, and collaborative contributors.
